Much to everyone's surprise, the rumors turned out to be true, and just days before the release of LoM, Square announced Chrono Cross. Recently, rumor spread on the Net of a new sequel to Chrono Trigger that was in development at Square, to be unveiled as a playable demo when Legend of Mana was released in July. It's also one of the most important RPGs ever made, as it brought together the creators of the two most popular and successful RPG franchises of all time (Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest) to form a "dream team" of sorts, that was in fact called "Dream Project."įor years now, gamers have been clamoring for a sequel. Arguably one of the 16-Bit era's crowning moments, Chrono Trigger will forever have a place in gaming history as one of the most critically acclaimed, commercially successful RPGs ever made. For all of Final Fantasy's peerless reputation, however, there is one game deep in the heart of Square's hallowed library that transcends even that mighty series. Eight chapters old, with numerous spin-offs to boot, Final Fantasy is the reigning champion of the role-playing genre. The two are as inseparable as Siamese twins. But Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition looks like it may be a must-buy for me.When you hear the words Final Fantasy, you immediately think of the name Square as well. My plan this year is still to focus on games in my library that I have yet to finish. Then there is the nostalgic part of me that wouldn’t mind having the game on the Nintendo Switch as sort of a personal way of paying homage to first experiencing Chrono Trigger on the Super Nintendo.

The PC version is immediately intriguing because I have Chrono Trigger on Steam and having the ability to play all my “Chrono” games on one platform is appealing. Are you kidding me? The tough part will be deciding which platform to get the game on. I’m still in shock even as I type this at the fact that we have anything “Chrono” coming out this year in 2022.
Since my birthday is in May, Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition will likely be my gift to myself this year. Square Enix has been remaster and remake happy in recent years with Final Fantasy VII Remake and the pixel remasters of earlier Final Fantasy games. Seeing Chrono Cross finally get the upgraded treatment makes me hopeful that Chrono Trigger’s day will come as well. There was a nice variety in scenery throughout the game that made it feel like a grand adventure. Serge and Kid were very memorable characters. My attention was held from the beginning to the end. As an overall package, it was one great RPG that I remembered playing on PlayStation. Now the story, gameplay, and battles were all very solid in Chrono Cross. Kid is back as Square Enix unveiled Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition earlier this week. He is one of the all-time greats when it comes to video game music and I honestly would buy the game for his involvement alone. Mitsuda also wrote the soundtrack to Chrono Trigger and composed Xenogears’ memorable melodies. Square Enix brought back musical genius Yasunori Mitsuda to work on the soundtrack for the remastered version of the game and I can’t wait to hear what’s in the finished product. The music was just on another level for this game. What was most memorable to me about Chrono Cross above anything else was its amazing soundtrack. While I was not as captivated by Chrono Cross as I was with its predecessor, the original PlayStation title was an excellent RPG in its own right. This was something that I was not expecting and was a pleasant surprise this week. Titled Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition, this remastered sequel of Chrono Trigger will be released on multiple gaming platforms and features an HD upgrade, enhanced battle system, and even the inclusion of the game, RADICAL DREAMERS – Le Trésor Interdit –. While there seems to be no indication that a Chrono Trigger project is in the works, I was floored when Square Enix revealed this week in a Nintendo Direct that the remastered version of Chrono Cross will be released in April of this year. Chrono Trigger is near and dear to my heart in a way that no other game can match and maybe never will. It is my favorite game of all time and is the finest work that Square Enix (then Squaresoft) ever released. For years, I have desired to see a Chrono Trigger remaster or remake on modern consoles.
